Illiteracy was no barrier to receiving God’s word for Mama Koi, who never had a chance to learn to read and write.
A story by MAF Technologies, Kowara Bell
Koi, also known as Mama Koi from Nalepa village, a community situated outside Goroka in Papua New Guinea, could never study the pages of a Bible because she did not know how to read.
However, this has not stopped Mama Koi from hearing God’s word. Thanks to an audio Bible player donated by MAF Technologies, she is now able to listen to the text translated into Tok Pisin.
“When I received the radio (audio Bible), it allowed me to listen to gospel music, Bible verses, and Bible studies, all of which have greatly strengthened my faith in the Lord,” she said.
“I do not know how to read or study the Bible, but this has truly overwhelmed me, and I am filled with joy to listen to God's word every day.”
Nicholas Jowapo, a MAF Technologies employee who works as a local pastor with Christian Life Church Center on weekends, saw an opportunity to give Mama Koi the audio Bible.
After donating the audio Bible, he noticed a tremendous and positive transformation in Mama Koi's life, illustrating the powerful impact it can bring.
Pastor Nicholas said, “As her pastor, I have seen a great change in Mama Koi's life; she no longer chews betelnut or smokes cigarettes and is now faithful in doing praise and worship.
“The Word of God is like water and sharper than a two-edged sword. We cannot undermine the authority of God's Word, which can save, change, and deliver lives.”
He extended his thanks to MAF and said that he is grateful that the ministry helps supply audio Bibles to help illiterate people in rural areas, where the older generation are particularly disadvantaged.
