Drum refuelling at Telefomi

Dear Valued Customers,

In order to serve communities in remote areas from our bases at Balimo, Telefomin, Tabubil, Tari and Vanimo, our operations rely entirely on drum fuel.

Due to the ongoing drum fuel supply issues within Papua New Guinea since the beginning of the year, and with no sustainable and reliable solution in sight, MAF PNG must continue to source fuel from outside the country.

With the additional substantial cost that this incurs, we are sorry to advise our customers that we have no choice but to keep applying our fuel surcharge on top of our normal charter rates for an indefinite period of time, effective as of Monday 11 March 2024.

We recognise that this will continue to be a significant burden on our customers and partners and we are doing everything we can to minimise the impact and are exploring all options to source cheaper fuel in drums. Should the fuel situation in the country stabilise and fuel prices return to previous levels, this fuel surcharge will be removed.

We regret any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

The MAF Booking Office will manage all flights throughout the country, prioritising based on urgency and available fuel.

For those of you who pray, your prayers are appreciated for a speedy and sustainable solution to the country’s fuel shortage, for the people of PNG affected by it, especially those in remote communities who rely on MAF’s air services.

Kind regards,

The Management of MAF PNG
